FAQs
WHAT IS COACHING?
People usually seek out a coach because there’s some aspect of their
personal or professional life that they want to change or improve.
Coaching is a collaborative partnership between coach and client and
offers you a completely safe space where you can ‘think aloud’. It gives you
time out on a consistent basis to think about YOU and what you really want
from your life.
Whatever you want to achieve, you are far more likely to make it happen –
and make it happen faster – by working with a coach.
Life Coaching originated in the USA in the 1980s as a way to help people
advance personally and professionally. It is now recognised world-wide and
is rapidly growing in popularity especially in the UK, Europe and Australia.
DOES COACHING WORK FOR EVERYONE?
As long as there is a gap between where you are now and where you want to
be, and you are willing to work hard and take action to get there,
coaching should work well for you.
IS COACHING THE SAME AS COUNSELLING?
Coaching is
not the same as counselling, which tends to deal with
emotional issues from your past. Coaching looks to the FUTURE, concentrating
on where you want to get to and taking the necessary action steps to get you
there.
WHAT DOES A COACH DO?
Whatever you want to achieve or change, your coach will -
 |
be completely objective and focused on your success |
 |
help you to get clear about what it is you really want
|
 |
give you the opportunity to think bigger – and achieve more than you
thought you could |
 |
always support you and listen to you without judgement |
 |
help you to design workable goals and action plans
|
 |
hold you accountable for your progress
|
 |
accept nothing less than your best |
HOW DOES IT WORK?
After an initial consultation, we determine which of the range of
COACHING OPTIONS are most appropriate to your needs. It’s possible that
one of my Associates may be best suited to your needs and if that is the
case, I will put you in touch with them.
You receive a Welcome Pack with information and some assessments to
complete. You then ‘meet’ with your coach regularly – either in person or
over the phone – for 45-minute sessions. Between sessions you will have
‘fieldwork’ to do to keep you progressing towards your goals. Your coach is
on hand to offer additional support if needed via short phone calls and/or
emails between sessions.
HOW LONG DOES COACHING TAKE?
This is a hard question to answer, as it varies with each individual.
Typically, clients work with a coach for around three to six months.
Coaching isn’t a ‘quick fix’ and though many clients report immediate
improvements, with others it can take a few months to really start to see
changes.
Some clients choose to remain in the coaching relationship after their
initial challenge has been resolved, as they value the opportunity to ‘think
aloud’ and work out issues with an objective third party. Also, in our
hectic world, coaching provides them the time and space – on a regular basis
– to work ON their lives or businesses rather than IN them.
DOES COACHING OVER THE PHONE REALLY WORK?
I work with most of my clients over the phone. It’s extremely focused and
many clients find it easier to be open and frank from the privacy of their
home or office. It also means valuable time isn’t wasted travelling to
sessions.
COULDN’T MY FRIENDS OR FAMILY HELP ME?
Possibly, but the big difference between working with a coach and talking
to a friend or family member is that your coach is 100 per cent OBJECTIVE
and is totally focused on your success. Your friends or family may –
consciously or unconsciously – want you to stay the same and therefore NOT
make the changes you desire. Your coach has no hidden agenda or vested
interests.
A coach is professionally trained to ask you the tough questions that
help you to make the best decisions and choose the best path for yourself.
It’s rare in life to find someone who really listens to you and has only
your best interests at heart.
HOW DO I KNOW THAT THE COACH IS PROPERLY QUALIFIED?
There are a lot of coaches out there and it is important to make sure
that your coach is well qualified. Some of the questions you might want to
ask are:
 |
Have they graduated from an accredited coach training programme?
|
 |
Are they a member of the International Coach Federation (ICF)?
|
 |
Do they possess an ICF credential – i.e. Associate Certified Coach
(ACC), Professional Certified Coach (PCC) or Master Certified Coach (MCC)? |
HOW MUCH DOES COACHING COST?
Fees are charged monthly and include your scheduled coaching sessions,
plus on-going support by phone or email in between sessions.
The costs vary from £75 to £195 per month, depending on the type of
service you choose – and also the number of coaching sessions you choose to
undertake in a month. (See COACHING OPTIONS for more
details)
